| Supplies to bring to class 1. Sewing machine in working order. Machine must be able to do at least zig-zag stitch and accommodate fine nylon thread on top. Don't forget your pedal, bobbins, cords or manual (if you need to refer to it for machine settings.) 2. Open toe applique foot for your machine (or clear plastic zig-zag foot is second best) 3. Seam guide for 1/4 seams or 1/4 inch foot for your machine 4. Thread in neutral color like beige or white (if you are using light-colored background fabric) or black (if most of your background fabric is dark blue or black.) Cotton thread is preferred. 5. Clear fine nylon thread 6. General sewing supplies: sewing needles, good quality size 60 and size 80 sewing machine needles (i.e. Schmetz are wonderful!), fabric scissors, seam ripper, and fine, sharp straight pins 7. Ball point bodkin 8. Wooden iron 9. #2 pencil with a dull point (we can "dull" it in class--sharp pencils will tear fusible) 10. 2 yards "light to medium weight" non-woven fusible interfacing 11. 1/2 yard tear-away stabilizer 12. Embroidery thread--to coordinate with your butterflies 13. Rotary cutter, ruler and mat. Bring a variety of rulers for trimming, if you have them. 14. Fabric--100% cotton only please. Small amounts are needed for the butterflies, but make sure that your scraps are at least 6" wide, as the butterfly wings are large. Conventionally-cut 1/4 yard pieces or fat quarters are a good size to work from. |
