Nine Patch and Hourglass Quilt |
Uh Oh...looks like this one is in use! |
| What could be more useful than nine patch? It's great all by itself, as a connector block or as a border. It's fast, it's easy and it's fun. And when paired with the hourglass block, magic happens! Somehow, a horizontally set quilt takes on a diagonally set look--and the result is stunning. We will learn techniques to speed piece both blocks and you will be amazed at how fast this quilt comes together. This is a good block for a beginner with some sewing experience. Come join us for a fun day of sewing. |
| Supplies to bring to class: 1. Sewing machine in working order. 2. Seam guide for 1/4 seams or 1/4 inch foot for your machine 3. Thread in neutral color like beige (if you are using light-colored fabric) or black (if most of your fabric is dark blue or black.) Cotton thread is preferred, but bring what you have. 4. General sewing supplies: sewing needles, fabric scissors, seam ripper, and fine, sharp straight pins 5. Rotary cutter, ruler and mat. Also, if you have one, bring a medium to large square up ruler. We will be squaring off both blocks to 6 1/2 inches, so bring one at least that size. 6. Markers that will clearly mark lines on light, medium and dark fabrics. Some suggestions for light fabrics are fine, mechanical pencil or Bic fine point ink pens (not marker type) and silver colored pencil or chalk pencil for dark fabrics. The marks you make will end up in the seam allowances, so your markers don't have to be wash-out type. Bring a variety of markers so you can see what works best AND you will be able to mark on lights or darks if your plans change. 7. Fabric--100% cotton only please. See attached for guides regarding fabric selection and yardage requirements.
