| I love this pattern! What a way to show off a special fabric! Come find out how to piece this special block along with some fun variations. The secret of the Attic Windows block is in the dreaded 45 degree miter--but don't worry, I'll guide you through it and pretty soon you'll be mitering all your quilt borders with the useful knowledge you've gained. Bring scraps or a really special fabric that you have been saving and we'll figure out how to "window" it. |
| Supplies to bring to class: 1. Sewing machine in working order. 2. Seam guide for 1/4 seams or 1/4 inch foot for your machine 3. Thread in neutral color like beige (if you are using light-colored fabric) or black (if most of your fabric is dark blue or black.) Cotton thread is preferred, but bring what you have. 4. General sewing supplies: sewing needles, fabric scissors, seam ripper, and fine, sharp straight pins 5. A ruler that has a 45 degree marking on it, or a small drafting triangle 6. Rotary cutter, ruler and mat. A small thin ruler for drawing little lines on fabric is good too. 7. Markers that will clearly mark lines on light, medium and dark fabrics. Some suggestions for light fabrics are fine, mechanical pencil or Bic fine point ink pens (not marker type) and silver colored pencil or chalk pencil for dark fabrics. The marks you make will end up in the seam allowances, so your markers don't have to be wash-out type. Bring a variety of markers so you can see what works best AND you will be able to mark on lights or darks if your plans change. 8. A sheet of template plastic, gridded is best. Bring a permanent ink pen that can mark on the plastic--like a fine point Sharpie. 9. Fabric--100% cotton only please. See attached for guides regarding fabric selection. Amount of fabric is highly variable depending on the size of windows and quilt you want to make. |
